Approach

We are married, and we shoot every wedding together. One of us is on stills and one is on film, which means nothing has to be staged twice and neither of you spends the day being pointed at. It also means we can read a room between us without saying anything.

Most of what we keep is unprompted. We will put you in good light and then leave you alone in it, because the picture we want is the one where you have forgotten we are standing there. Presence over perfection, every time.

The name is three dates. We got engaged on the first of December, married a year later to the day in Mexico, and our first child arrived on the twelfth of January. Our faith shapes how we work, and Romans 12:10 is the line we keep coming back to: honour one another above yourselves.

Home is Des Moines and most of our year is spent across Iowa, but we have carried these cameras through North America and the Caribbean and we are always glad to travel.
